A popular entertanment was the chataqua. The six day event featured educational speakers, plays, music and choirs under the big tent.

The crowning touch to tourism was the addition of a modern tourist hotel. Completed in 1929, the Rainy Lake hotel has recieved heritage designation and reflects a spanish revival architectural style.

The Lloyd's had quickly realized the value of tourism and moved into the new hotel with Lloyd's Tourist Emporium.

JA Mathieu sawmill on Sand Bay, Rainy Lake

JA Mathieu, leaving the Shevlin Clarke Company started his own sawmill on Sand Bay. This marked the beginning of his dominance in the logging industry.
