Alberton is possibly unique among communities of its size for the fact that it has eleven churches of different religious denominations in or around the town.

One of the first churches built in town was the "first " Angligan Church constructed in 1865.

Reverend Robert W. Dyer was the first Anglican minister who came to Alberton.

He did so in 1859.

Second Angligan Church (Saint Peters)

A second, larger Anglican church was built in the town centre in 1892 and was destroyed in the town fire of 1927.

It was also the known as the Episcopal Church.

Third Angligan Church

The third Anglican Church was built in 1929 at a cost of $4,300 and it is still in use today.

The first Presbyterian Church was opened in 1835 just outside the town limits.

A larger church, built in 1855 was destroyed by fire in 1856 and was replaced by a third church which is still in use today.

This third church is closer to the town centre and is now home to the Gordon Memorial United Church.

Methodist Church and Manse

The Methodist Church and Manse were built in 1878 and still stand today.

However, the church was moved to a new location after a church union that joined some Methodists and some Presbyterians in a merger that resulted in the United Church.

The former Methodist Church became Presbyterian and the former Presbyterian became United!

Sacred Heart Church and Congregation

The first Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church was built around 1877-78 but was destroyed by fire in 1968.

The parochial house, a splendid three-storey structure survived the fire.
