The interaction between religion, health and social well-being was not as separated as it is today. The underpinnings of community health dependent a lot on the volunteers of service clubs and especially women?s? organizations. The Lady Minto hospital was one project that depended on this assistance.

There were a lot churches in both large and small towns. Every denomination was represented.
