On September 3, 1939 Canada pledged her support of Great Britain. For the second time during the 20th century, the citizens of the town of Transcona rallied together in support of King and Country.

At the time of his application in 1939, Mr. Rennie was in the military reserve. He included the names of two references "as to character and ability": Mr. N. Hopper, Superintendent, Car Department, Transcona Shops and Mr. George Olive, Mayor of Transcona, 81 Victoria Avenue West.

The Royal Canadian Air Force for service did not accept Mr. Rennie during WWII, as he was 55 years of age. He worked earnestly and patriotically as Treasurer for the Transcona War Efforts Committee for the duration of the war.
