K'owas Eagles
The K'owas are relatives of the Sta'stas, sharing the same crests and ancestors. K'owas means "Herring Eggs." A woman joked about another woman's children saying "Ooohhh, K'aaw tl'aaw hlaguu" 'just like herring eggs.' That's why today they're called 'herring eggs'.

The hereditary leader of this clan is Vern Brown, Git iiwaans, who has stayed active in Haida politics for many years. Elder-in-training, Leona Clow, is an outstanding clan member who proudly teaches Haida language to toddlers and has been a part of repatriating Haida ancestral remains for the past ten years.
