The Haileybury Fire Department had seen many fires throughout the years. There were three different fires in Haileybury's downtown before the Great Fire of 1922. The Great Fire was the department's biggest challenge and too large for them to combat.

The Haileybury Fire Brigade had a horse driven wagon and steam pumper in order to fight the Great Fire of 1922. Please note that the wagon was made of wood.

After the Great Fire of 1922, the Fire Department received some funds and purchased a 1922 Bickle Ruggles Fire Pumper. It was the first mechanized fire pumper in Northern Ontario and is most likely the only one of its kind in existence.

Although the Fire Department lost everything in the Great Fire, they rebuilt the Fire Hall (out of brick) and became better equipped and prepared for any future disasters.
