The Sunday School (S.S.) has played a very important part in the activities of the United Church, and an essential role in the community.

On June 28, 1922, a meeting of the Sabbath School was held in the Methodist Church. It was decided at this meeting to call the school "The United Sunday School of Greenbank". This was moved by Robert Michie, who was superintendent, and seconded by Isaac Beare.

In an article written in 1933, Rev. James Miller referred to the S.S. before the Union. The Primitive Methodists had their own S.S., with John Beare as superintendent, while the other churches had a union S.S., under the direction of James Miller. Miller wrote that for three years much excitement and some ill-feelings were caused by both S.S. having anniversaries on the same day. This was rectified with the union in 1926.

Sunday School superintendents over the years included Robert Michie, Edgar Leask, Lloyd Lee, Cliff Ward, Gordon Ward, John Dobson, Armour McMillan, Stanley Foster, Neil Hunter, Marshall McCraig, George Beare, Rodd Foster, Ernest Till, Harry Till, Randy Watson, George Stone, Murray Stone, Janice Robinson and Janice Lee.

The S.S. was made up of many different classes for adults and children including the Mission Band, Pilot Class, Men and Women's Bible Class and the Helping Hand Class.

In the early days, "Box and Pie" socials were a favourite way of spending an evening with friends while raising some money for church projects. Some beautifully decorated boxes would bring a high price, if the young man knew he would get to share the lunch with the young lady of his choice. During the war years, all Sunday School classes contributed to a soldier's fund. Boxes were packed monthly and given to the Red Cross for medical supplies.
