Think the diving tower (poplar poles) was on the edge of the hole at Main beach in 1935. Top seemed high to me. A former Unity school teacher (Lavina Butt) was at the lake on a Sunday and said let's go off the tower. My first time from the top and I could do nothing but follow. Scared half to death.

Mother and Dad at the cottage in 1933. It was built in 31 or 32. I think only 5 cottages when ours was built. Dion, Wettlaufer, Margot, and ours.

Editors Note: The fifth cottage was probably the Finley cabin.

Murray Atton (in the bathing suit?) with a catch of perch. They were very plentiful then. The Lake is named after one one of two Atton families.

Vera Dillman (the belle of the beach) from Cut Knife. I think the Dillmans had the post office in Cut Knife.

There was an older man at the lake named Henderson. He had one useless arm, but he swam or floated almost daily from the main beach to the west beach. He taught me to play bridge.

There was a softball team at the lake. The priests had a school or something at the west lake and used to come and beat our team. Also had a touring club come once. George Patterson (a Unity teacher) was our pitcher. Had a good fast ball, but that was all , so they knocked him all over the lot.

Sunday was always a big day at the lake. It was one of these days when the drownings (Sibbald and Tinkern) occurred. Really a shocker.

The only road in and out was a really problem when it rained. Two big hills and impossible in the mud.

Fishing was great. Steak was the favorite bait. If not available, orange peel or silver paper to catch the first and then eyes or fins from then on. West Lake perch were smaller. East Lake supposed to have trout, but never saw one. Coming home, Dad would drop off the perch at Haights, Fosters, Youngs. Very nice eating.
