Brigus was an economically and culturally vibrant community and the harbour was the centre of activity. As we look over this tranquil sight we try to imagine it transformed back to its glory days " the days of iron men and wooden ships."

On this spot they stood, billowing sails in their sights, with prayers of thanks for those safly returning home and prayers of God's Speed to the ships departing, carrying husbands and sons on their dangerous adventures out to sea.

Brigus was one of Newfoundland busiest ports, it is said that you could walk across the harbour on the decks of moored schooners.

St. George's was built in this prominent location reflecting its importance in the lives of those who prayed within its walls.

But on Sunday, the harbour was quiet save for the church bells calling skipper, merchant, labourer, and women alike up the steps of this church to worship one God, where all drank from the same cup and ate from the same loaf.
