The concept of the "bad" penny came from the British. The currency, in part, consisted of a half penny, a penny, and a three penny piece. Two of these coins were phased out, and that still left the penny. This coin, roughly the size of a Canadian Toonie, weighed a considerable amount as they were accumulated during the course of a day's transactions. Since it seemed that the more a person tried to make the correct change to eliminate these pennies, the more of them there seemed to be. Thus the phrase "a "bad" penny always comes back."
The Bad Penny logo that was painted on the wall closely resembled the English penny. Roger Moncion, a Windsor artist, felt that the Logo needed to be placed on the plane as well as the Hangar wall. He created a slightly different but still powerful version of the "Bad Penny" than is on the wall. His design was placed on the plane in 2006, and Windsor's Lancaster bomber was christened the Bad Penny.
