Kate Aitken died quietly in her home at Sunnybank Acres in Streetsville near Toronto on December 11th, 1971. She was eighty-one and left Canadian women a legacy of timely advice and cookery which has yet to be equaled. Kate's burial site is in her home town at the United Church Cemetary in Beeton.

On June 13th, 1973, the Beeton's Women's Institute placed a plaque in Kate's memory in the Beeton park. Many invitations were sent out and a thousand people gathered in the park with at least five hundred people going to the community hall to visit and enjoy cake, tea, and coffee served by the members of the institute.

Kate's energy was legendary and her output prodigious. For years, Kate Aitken admirers have made the quiet pilgrimage to Beeton, to explore the childhood village of a marvelous and versatile Canadian Woman.
