Rain and ice break up in the winter caused many headaches and sleepless nights for Alberta Beach residents and visitors alike. Ice moving on the lake during breakup would sometimes move towards the shore, causing damage to cottages and other structures. In 1945, a significant portion of the walking pier was damaged by ice breakup, requiring substantial reconstruction.

Over the years there were many floods experienced by the Village. The vehicle and pedestrian bridges built on the main road were often in danger of damage or being washed away by the creek swollen with melted snow and rain. In the early days the roads were dirt and gravel and became very muddy when it rained. One current long time resident remembers that it wasn't uncommon to get stuck on the highway in the spring. There was pavement only as far as Highway 16 (Yellowhead) at that time. Another remembers driving in an open touring car. Everytime they went up a muddy hill, passengers would have to get out and push the car up the hill. It was so slippery that often the car would slide back down. Once at the Lake, the car was left parked on the road and the family would walk in to the cabin, so as not to risk getting the car stuck. When the bridges washed out in the Village, some summer residents would leave the Lake early, as it was too difficult to get around.
