The location of Fairfield Mission was identical to all other Moravian Missions. It was located at a bend in the river, along the west shore of a major river. That river was the Thames River, the major watercourse of 18th century travel and the stomping grounds of many First Nations communities over the years. The location was ideal according to Moravian doctrine.

By the mid 20th century, the Mission of Fairfield was becoming a fading memory in the landscape of the now Zone Township in the County of Kent. The rediscovery of the old Fairfield Mission was by a local landowner and historian, Stan Gamble from Detroit, the owner of the beautiful stonehouse that is located immediately adjacent and possibly on top of part of the former grounds of the Mission. Gamble, during his own improvements to his property, discovered fieldstones indicative of remains of former house structures. Gamble led the Jurys to the location of the Mission.
