In 1961, the Eskimos once again made the playoffs, but lost in the semi-final against the Calgary Stampeders. From 1962 to 1965, the Eskimos did not even make it to the playoffs. In 1966 Edmonton returned to the playoffs with a 6-9-1 record, but lost to Winnipeg in the semi-final. In the 1967 season, Edmonton was better by finishing the season 9-6-1. But like the previous season, Edmonton lost again in the semi-finals, this time to the Roughriders. In 1968, Edmonton once again made the playoffs but once again lost in the semi-final, this time to their provincial rival, the Calgary Stampeders 29-13. To end the 1960s, Edmonton missed the playoffs.

In the 1970s (also known as the Decade of Excellence), Edmonton made the post season every year except in 1971 when they went 6-10.

In 1970 Edmonton once again could not get past Calgary in the semi-final in which they lost 16-9. From 1972 to 2006, the Eskimos started one of the longest streaks in pro-sports history. In this time frame, the Eskimos made the playoffs for 36 straight years. In their first year of the streak, Edmonton lost in a semi-final game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders 8-6.

For the next three seasons, Edmonton reached three straight Grey Cup appearances, losing two of them in the process. Edmonton's first loss was to the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1973 by the score of 22-18. Edmonton's next Grey Cup appearance in 1974 was where the Eskimos lost to the Alouettes 20-7 in Vancouver, and in 1975, Edmonton won their fourth Grey Cup in team history in 1975 in the first ever prairie Grey Cup game played in Calgary, defeating the Montreal Alouettes 9-8. This game was of significance because this was the first time since the 1937 Grey Cup, in which a touchdown was not scored. This was Edmonton's first Grey Cup win since the 1956 season.

Edmonton did not make it to the Grey Cup in 1976, as they were defeated by Saskatchewan in the Western final 23-13. To finish the 1970s, Edmonton reached the Grey Cup for three consecutive seasons from 1977 to 1979, winning two straight in 1978 and 1979 against the Montreal Alouettes 20-13 and 17-9 respectively, starting their dynasty. As some Eskimo fans and their media stated, Edmonton was the team of the 1970s in Canada.

The 1980s started off, much like how the 1970s ended, more Grey Cup victories. From 1980 to 1982, Edmonton won three straight Grey Cups by defeating Hamilton 48-10 in Toronto, Ottawa 26-23 in Montreal and Toronto 32-16 in Toronto respectively. Edmonton's Grey Cup victory in 1981 was the most signifcant Grey Cup victory during the Eskimos dynasty, because of the way Edmonton finished the season by going 14-1-1, and cruisng through the playoffs. During the Grey Cup, Edmonton was actually losing 20-1 at halftime, but staged a comeback and kicked the winning field goal with 27 seconds left. Many people considered this game to be in the top 10 of Grey Cups.

Edmonton's next Grey Cup appearance was in 1986 where the Eskimos played against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In that game, Edmonton lost 39-15, after finishing that season with a 13-4-1 record.

In 1987, Edmonton returned to the Grey Cup and narrowly defeated Toronto 38-36. This Grey Cup victory was the 10th in Eskimos history.
