The opening ball at the Paper mill saw over 1,000 attend the event hosted by Mayor Christie and Mr. EW Backus. The finishing room was transformed for the event.

Local men served in the 52nd Battallion and the 141st Bull Moose Battalion. Dr. McKenzie, also a former mayor directed the company.

By 1914, the growing population necessitated the construction of a new public school. Robert Moore, a past mayor and doctor was honoured with the naming of the school.
The school was built in the growing east end of Fort Frances.

In 1914, the community was able to construct a Carnigie Library. The original structure is an example of Georgian Revival architecture.

The 1918 influenza outbreak overtook the world, and Fort Frances was no exception. Public schools were closed for five weeks and public gatherings banned.
