An older example of a married business partnership was that of Millie Isaacs and Lisle Isaacs, who operated the American Clothing House for many years until his death in 1930. Millie continued to keep the books after her sons Ralph and Lawrence took over the business. Other business couples in Saint John include Goldie and Abe Davis (Ideal Stores), Erminie and Edgar Cohen (Hoffman's) and Ella and Sydney Grosweiner.

Rachel Columbus was a very successful business woman in the middle of the depression. Despite being surrounded by male shopowners, she got on well with most of them. Rachel opened a new shop on Dock Street with her new husband in 1931. Her sisters took over Rae's Novelty, but it only lasted a few more years. Following her divorce in 1937, Rachel kept the store on Dock Street and raised two children with the help of her sister Sadie while running a business. Rachel gave up the shop in 1952 but continued to work for others until she was 65.
