Lance Corporal Edward James Gardner was born in British Harbour, Newfoundland on September 23, 1891 to Arthur and Mary Gardner. He was a member of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, service number 1247. Edward was killed in action on July 1, 1916 at the Battle of the Somme which took place at Beaumont Hamel, France. His body was never found.

Edward also had a brother serve in the Regiment, Cyril Gardner, as well as a sister, Grace who was a Nursing Sister in the Queen Alexandria's International Nursing Service. She was a nurse with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force.

Lance Corporal Horatio Barbour, service number 1419 was born in Ship Cove, now Port Rexton, to William and Amy Ann Barbour on September 1, 1890. He was killed in the Battle of the Somme at Beaumount Hamel, France on July 1, 1916.

Andrew George King was born on April 12, 1896 at White Point, (near New Bonaventure) to Richard and Rachel Hannah King.

After the war he lived in England and became a lawyer.

Captain John (Jack) Thomas Randell was born on January 2, 1877 in Ship Cove, now Port Rexton, Newfoundland to Captain John and Mary (nee Fowlow) Randell. He served in three wars: the Boer War, the First World War and the Second World War.

In the Boer War he served in the Royal Canadian Field Artillary as a Sergeant; World War I in the Royal Navy as a Lieutenant Commander and in World War II in the Merchant Marines as a Lieutenant Commander. He was awarded the South African War Medal from the Boer War and the Distinguished Service Medal, Croix de Guerre from World War I. He retired from the Merchant Marine's in 1941 and passed away in 1944.

Captain Randell had a sister, Mary Patience, who served as a Nurse during World War I.
