When we weren't on the Basin we skated on Tolson's Pond or on the Meadow (on Meadowbrook Drive). We used to put hot potatoes in our skateboots, and when we were skating leave them in our regular boots, so our feet were warm when we changed. We coasted down the hills, not heavy traffic then, just an occasional delivery sleigh, and we used to hitch rides by fastening the rope of the sled to the back of the delivery sleigh (Canfield's probably) and get carried along in fine style. I'm sure it was very dangerous and I would have had a fit if my children or grandchildren had done such a thing.

We used to go back to Heffler's Field. There were two farms side by side, Mitchell's field at the top of what is now called Meadowbrook and Hefflers at the top of what would be a continuation of Sullivan's Hill. It is all the Basinview area. After the logs had been brought out there was a fine road. We'd hitch our sleds together, putting the largest in front, and have a wonderful coast all the way through the woods down to the Main Road.

In summer we had the Club House. It was really the center of activity for the whole village. People would play tennis and swim. There were dances, and teas every Saturday afternoon, when the women would take turns providing. Boats and canoes were stored in the lower part of the Club and were in constant use.

We went over to Admiral's Rock for picnics and a swim. Here is a group of us over there, I'm there in the front, and see George up there up at the top. Some of the Christies and some of the Campfields, it was kind of a party at that time.
