Formerly known as the Curling High Road, this road was given it's new name by Joseph R. Smallwood after returning from a trip to New York City. The reason for this was the similarity he saw between the two streets, that they were both the major retail districts of each town.

The site of Lundrigan's first business in Corner Brook. The growth of Lundrigan's almost parallels the growth of the city. The founder, William J. Lundrigan, came to Corner Brook during the construction days and established his first business venture in 1928. By the late 30's he was operating a very successful sawmill and woodworking plant. He went on to expand his business, involving his company in several major construction projects around the world.
