The Corner Brook Hospital was officially opened on August 24th, 1925. Situated on West Street, it was a two story, wooden building, with 25 beds. The first x-ray unit, operated by car batteries, and using a gas vacuum tube, had the "Kick of a Mule", but did very valuable work. Although the hospital was originally intended to serve only the medical needs of the mill workers, it quickly established itself as a surgical treatment centre for the entire region.

This building was constructed in 1925, and opened in 1926. It accommodated a Post Office, Customs, Telegraph Office and Magistrate's Court. Two holding cells were in the basement of the building; these Cells held the prisoners while waiting to go upstairs to court.
