"This picture is of a police constable trying to evict a porcupine, can you believe it, a porcupine from one of the buildings in downtown Sudbury. You know, they used to call us to do everything including evicting porcupines, none the less, they couldn't get a hold of anybody from the humain society, so we had to do the job, and it was late at night besides. It occured in July of 1951. It shows the constable with the long brush, I guess it's a brush, trying to get him out of the corner and pull him towards the opening of the door. I think it eventually worked."

The program covers a three-month period and includes excursions to medical facilities, courthouse and the police station. It began in 1985 as a pilot co-orperative progam between the Ministry of the Solicitor General and the Ministry of Education. Larchwood Public School in Dowling, Ontario was the first school in the Sudbury area to introduce this program into their curriculum.

Visiting children

A Christmas party would be held every year at Laurentian Hospital, in the children's ward. Police officers, Sudbury Wolves hockey players (the local Ontario Hockey League's team) and Santa Claus would visit the children and bring them toys.
