Rosemary belived in introducing children to their heritage and environment. In her travels, over the years, she made a point of photographing children. She photographed them as part of any professional assignment and during vacations as well.

Rosemary photographed many children while in the Arctic. Her collection includes many showing children about their regular day, at school, social gatherings and play. There were many more photographs than could be used in this exhibit.

While in the Arctic, Rosemary photographed all aspect of the Inuit culture, not only the print making and scenery, that may have drawn her there initially. She did this because she loved people, and in children she found willing subjects. She had a way of making her subjects relax and her photography brings that out!

When Rosemary and her friend, Barbara Hinds, went to the Arctic in 1960 they were interacting with many Inuit but did not speak the language. Since few of the adults spoke English what these southern women needed was an interpreter. The next photograph is of Sarpinak hunting. This boy became both their guide and intrepreter.

For a number of years Rosemary worked for the London Times Supplement. One job had her looking into the educational needs of children who lived and worked on canal boats in England. The next image captures a bygone lifestyle on the canals that is experiencing a resurgence in 2013, with young adults who can not afford rental and property prices in London and England in general.

One of Rosemary's biggest projects was for The Beaver magazine. She was tasked to document the changes that would affect communities along the St. Lawrence Seaway, which included everything from Sault Ste Marie to Montreal. While in the "Soo" she photographed two boys playing around an old lock.

The Shilly Shally camp, that Rosemary and friends used in what is now Gatineau Park, Quebec, was a destination on snowy winter weekends. Rosemary encouraged friends to bring their children to experience nature and the Canadian winter, only a few miles from her home in Ottawa.

When Rosemary arrived in Cole Harbour she fell in love with the harbour; its environment and people. She was a quiet juggernaut who championed the environment and culture of the place. By the mid-1970s the Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society and its main operation, the Farm Museum were well under way. Rosemary played a very active and vital role in the acquisition of artifacts and archives while continuing to advocate for the establishment of the Cole Harbour Lawrencetown Coastal Heritage Park. The Farm and the Park became her driving passions. Forty years later we can honestly say that her efforts have been rewarded and her legacy is intact!
