Sharon Johnson's INTERVIEW WITH ELMER WEBB, 1977 (spoken by Paul Janes and Paul Miller)
Question: That's pretty cheap! Now can you tell me about the casino down at the beach? I understand it was a pretty famous dancehall
Mr. Webb: Oh yes! The casino along with the bathhouse was built in 1919. I can remember helping to build the dance hall when I was a boy. You know you couldn't stand around after a dance, it was that full of people. It cost you a quarter to get onto the dance floor and five cents per dance. They used to hire young boys to stand in the four corners where you got onto the dance floor to make sure the people dropped their ticket in before a dance.

[The floor was cleared of patrons before the orchestra played their next tune. This system was called jitney dancing.]
