This slide as I said was between 12 and 13. And I happened to be sitting up in the cab… and I see some of the gang starting to run… well I know they were running from something… and at that particular moment I see the engineer- Ole Johnson (coughs) and the fireman, Jim Campbell jump out of the rotary- between the rotary and the rotary tender. They run alongside the uh, tender and they just grabbed 'a hold of my flagstaff on my pilot (whew) away went the rotary. A slide had kept creepin' down, creepin' down, creepin' down and finally it took that rotary and put it away up again' the bank on the other side…. Well, it broke my big cast, big ski casting - push casting - on the pilot, broke it right off. I couldn't do anything more. But I got off the engine and I walked over to the slide.
