History of the Wolseley Courthouse and Champions of Justice

TRANSCRIPT

The North West Mounted Police used the building as a jail until 1915. From 1915 to 1921, it was used as a detention home for boys, with a wooden building being added to the west as a school room. This has been demolished. It is interesting to note that the resident school teacher at this time was Miss C.E. Sheldon Williams, after who Sheldon Williams Collegiate in Regina was named. In 1921, the building became part of the Nursing Home, along with a large building erected on the west side of it. In 1986, when the home was demolished to make way for the new Lakeside Home, the old court house was declared a heritage building and is a historical spot in Wolseley.
