'People, farmers especially, would want the newspaper to read, and didn't have any money because they didn't get much money from their crops, so they would bring in butter, eggs, flour, part of pig, rump or pork, and we had very good meals when this stuff came in, but we were quite content with the peanut butter sandwich.'
