Speed, Brawn & Beauty: The History of the Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival

TRANSCRIPT

JM: Well, I really found Trapper's Festival to be very exciting in the '60s and '70s. It was! It was an exciting couple of decades there and, like I said, from the time I was six years old, I remember the first Trapper's that we went to, and from then on it was Trapper's Festival after Trapper's Festival. And there are so many events that take place that is, in some cases, overwhelming… Memory recalls these are certain events that I really enjoyed to watch and they really stand out, whereas other things I've maybe seen, it didn't stand out… So-but the town was really booming at that time… Good time in the streets: fiddles and dancing and no one was really afraid to do a jig in the middle of the street, whereas now you do a jig and people look at you funny… What are you doing? My Dad would say that, too!
