1906 - Fulton Alexander McKirdy staked the first homestead

1912 - Swift Creek Roadhouse built

1913 - Cox's start the postal service out of Swift Creek

1914 - Swift Creek train station built and railway goes through the area

1915 - Kennedy and Moore sawmill opens (one of the first mills)

1916 - Swift Creek schoolhouse built

1919 - Kennedy and Moore sawmill closes

1925 - Gordons build the first 'Valemount Hotel'

1927 - Swift Creek station is moved a mile up the track, and the town is renamed

Valemount

- Dahlberg's build their general store

1928 - Cox's move the Post Office to Valemount

1935 - Swift Creek schoolhouse burns down in June, and a new schoolhouse is built on

Main Street for September

1937 - Mortensons take over Dahlberg's store, becomes Mortenson's General Store

1939 - Kushnirs buy Valemount Hotel

1949 - First Community Hall is built with a registered community association

1951 - Kushnirs open new Valemount Hotel

- Acre of land fenced in for cemetery between 4th and 5th Avenue (out in the bush

at that time), on land donated by Gordons

1952 - New two-room school is built on 5th Avenue

1953 - Hystad Brothers put in a planer yard on Beavan Crescent

1956 - Geir's store opens on 5th Ave

1957 - Freight shed built onto train station

1958 - Town gets power (originally provided by Mr. Flemming, but taken over later in

the year by Northlands Utilities (BC) Ltd.)

1959 - Hystads begin to move their equipment down the Canoe River

- Brick Post Office opens on Main Street

1960 - Street lights installed

- Phones installed

- BC Hydro takes over power supply

- Curling rink built

1962 - Valemount incorporated as a municipality

- Two more rooms built on to the new school

- Village Office, with library, built on Commercial Drive

1963 - CIBC opens on Main Street in the old Cox homestead

- First resident doctor arrives, Dr. A L Thompson

- Royal Canadian Legion Branch 266 (Valemount), opens

1964 - Route for new Yellowhead Highway surveyed

- Formal opening of Waterworks

- Fire protection now available

1965 - Construction on new Yellowhead Highway goes through

- Television installed, receiver up on Canoe mountain

1966 - Three new rooms and a gym with a stage added to the school

1967 - Centennial Park opens

1968 - Yellowhead Motel built

- House built for a resident doctor is converted to clinic

- Old Valemount Café building becomes the Seniors' Hall

1970 - Valemount Forestry Office opens

- Liquor store built on Main Street

1971 - Mortenson's store opens in new location on 5th Avenue

1972 - Ice arena opens

- Canoe Mountain Echo prints its first paper

1973 - Library moves into old schoolhouse

1974 - Canoe Mountain Holidays opens its Heli-Skiing lodge

1975 - Elementary school built

- First class to graduate in Valemount

- Artificial ice installed in arena

1976 - Court House opens

1977 - Community Hall burns down

- First modern health clinic opens

1978 - Grand opening of the Senior Citizens home

1979 - New Village Office opens, with fire hall

- New Community Hall opens

- Government Agents office opens

1980 - Grand opening of new Village Office

- Construction begins on sewer system

1981 - Post Office moves into Karas mall

- Sewer system completed

1982 - Valemount's first ball park opens

1983 - Fire Hall opens on 5th Avenue

1984 - 5th Avenue is paved

- Valemount Forestry office closes, now based out of McBride

1986 - Kinnickinick Park opens

1987 - Valemount Historic Society purchases the old Train Station

1988 - New Library opens

1991 - New curling rink opens

- Official opening of the Valemount airport

1992 - Train Station reopens as the Museum

2006 - New high school opens
