projects on such diverse
topics relating to the
schoolhouse, students, and
education in Fort McMurray in
the past.
   Of course, Mr. and Mrs.
McTavish played a huge role
in the beginning for the
Public School Board. I have
researched their history

thoroughly in order to
produce an accurate account
of their extensive work to
establish the McMurray School
District, build the first
schoolhouse, teach students
and encourage children to
learn, and offer the first
set of formal education in
the once small town of

McMurray. They are no longer
with us; however, their
contributions to the area
have shaped Fort McMurray
today, and I would like to
formally recognize them for
focusing on the children and
for putting their efforts
into an idea that would
impact the future of the town

so tremendously.
