although late in 1943, he was
sent briefly to St. John's,
Newfoundland. He was very
impressed by this visit and
wrote in his diary that he
wanted to return and paint
there in peacetime.
Tinning's fascination with
Newfoundland was cause for a
return trip on his own in

1949. This exhibition
chronicles Tinning's
production of a series of
watercolour paintings during
this period of his life and
the history of what has
happened to them since.
