Fisherman” a household name.
Sadly, Yvon died on January
6, 2007 two weeks after
suffering a stroke. Speaking
at his funeral, provincial
Premier Shawn Graham called
Durelle “the heart of the
community . . . a giant of a
man who leaves a legacy not
only for all of the province

of New Brunswick, but for the
whole country.”

   “50/50” highlights the
important contributions that
O’Ree and Durelle made to New
Brunswick’s sports heritage,
and how their success in
sport and their stories have
inspired others in their

communities and far beyond.
Both men became sports
legends: underdogs who held
their own against the
stiffest competition around,
and emerged as cultural
icons.
