farm.
The kitchen was the
centre of the rural home,
more than just a place for
cooking and eating, its
physical and emotional warmth
stirred by the bustle of the
homemaker's activities. Here
the homemaker did laundry,
ironing, mending, sewing,
| knitting and rug making. Here
the children played and did
homework by lamp light. Here
the neighbours visited and
enjoyed card games.
A tour of this Community
Memories exhibit warmly
illustrates why the kitchen
is considered the 'heart' of
the home, no matter what the
| era.
