Lloyd Johnstone served as the Mayor of Terrace from 1972 to 1974. When he moved outside municipal boundaries to Lakelse Lake, he chose not to run for a second term as Mayor. His replacement, Gordon Rowland, noted that he was a tough act to follow. 'Now I know how the rookie ball player replacing Babe Ruth must have felt,' Mayor Rowland remarked in his inaugural address.

Al Johnston, Ted Johnston, and Billy Gray constructed the Johnstone cabin during a winter work term at the Lakelse hot springs in 1921. It was originally intended as a barn for a horse, but was later converted into a cabin. The barn was built with split cedar walls hewn on the inside, and featured interlocking corner joints.

The Johnstone Cabin was moved to Heritage Park Museum in Terrace in the 1980s and now houses an exhibit on the history of forestry in the region. Fittingly, both Bruce and Lloyd worked in forestry at different points during their lives.
