Everyone depended on the ferry for it brought supplies and visitors to the Island and crops back to the mainland. The Island had docks at the North End and the West Side.

The Pelee boat ran during the summer months; it was said that once the last boat of the season was on its way out, the Islanders breathed a sigh of relief. Now they could forget about entertaining and hosting the mainlands guests and get back to doing the necessary work of canning, sewing, and so on.

Hulda’s Rock is commonly said to be named for one of Pelee’s First Nations people. According to the Island legend, Hulda was a lovely Indian princess, who lived on the Island many years ago.

In the winter, the plane brought mail. Guests did not come by air, even though it was a lifesaver during emergencies such as medical assistance.
