Natalie is stowing away some laundry. The down stairs bedroom was designed for the assistant, but in our period (1870) Jerimiah was quite eldery, and his son had taken over the lightkeeper duties. Jerimiah then moved downstairs, where he could be closer to the kitchen, and didn't have to face the stairs whenever he wanted to lay down.

Julie is checking the ledger supplies, and files. Even though Jerimiah had passed the work to his son, he still kept the salary, he did maintain some records though. A lightkeeper had a lot of paperwork, that's why the filing cabinet is in Jerimiah's room , and not in the office upstairs.

Julie checks the small coal stove in the downstairs bedroom. With a cold north wind blowing, it will be nice to have a warm room to sit in when the lightkeeper takes a break between rounds. There are two stoves and two fireplaces in the house, all of which need daily tending to. Cleaning out the ashes, and readying a night's supply of fuel isn't glamourous work, but it's necessary work.

Julie and Kayla are drawing off vinegar. Vinegar was used to clean the light tower windows, both inside and out. We don't have the exact recipe, but most likely an apple cider vinegar was used. There are an abundance of apples in the fall, plenty to make a years worth of cleaning vinegar.
