"V-J DAY IN WETASKIWIN
'Honest? no tricks?' was the reaction of a good part of the population of Wetaskiwin to the announcement of the end of the war with Japan.
Flags appeared everywhere as if by magic and by five-fifteen there was scarcely a home or place of business unbedecked with bunting.
Mayor Enman, a huge smile on his face, rushed from his store to set [t]he city siren going at 5:03 p.m. Together with the whistle on the mill it made an unholy racket for fully 15 minutes.
