The salt in the rain and mist which blows in from the surrounding water causes rapid deterioration of the painted exterior of the church. In 1990 the congregation decided to apply vinyl siding to the church exterior. The result was the removal of some architectural features and the covering of other features.

The fine pattern design precisely cut and carefully installed in the shingles by some craftsman of the past was covered over by the vinyl siding.

This is the appearance of the church before the vinyl siding was installed. Magnify the picture and examine the detailled patterns in the wooden shingles which were installed when the building was constructed in 1903.

The view from the southwest.
Each Sunday evening while the weather permitted some people remained in their cars in this parking lot and listened to the service over loud speakers. In the mid 1990's a small FM radio transmitter was used so the people could hear clearly on their car radios. Sometimes that was not so convenient- when the batteries to the FM unit ran down, the frequency of the FM transmitter would change. The listeners would have to change the tuner on their car radios to continue listening to the service.

The trees planted by Rev. M. W. Watterworth (1937-1941) matured and were causing damage to the roof of the church. They were removed during 1990. Upon close examination the bottom of the building seems to round out to give a skirt-like appearance.
