Telegraph offices were a very noisy part of every station. The messages that were received were then usually typed. In fact, even the train relay "clicks" were sometimes lost in the cacophony. The resonator was the tool used to isolate and amplify the sounds made by the relay. It was mounted on a pivoting arm, which made the work easier to do even in a confined area.

In 1965 the CPR canceled all passenger train routes that went through Sutton and the customs office was closed. When the station was torn down in 1969, employees were transferred to larger centers such as Richford in the U.S.A or Farnham in Québec.
