Rundle's injury led to him leaving the region for good. He returned to England and continued to serve as an itinerant preacher. He married and, with his wife, raised nine children. Although he spoke of his interest in returning to the regions he had served as a missionary and chaplain with the Hbc, he never saw North America again. He died in 1896.
