"All right! Who is spreading such gossip? My priceless collection! People from all over the world have come to admire my fine china. You know, after I died my niece, Clara, would give Spode plates to the girls at the telephone exchange for Christmas presents. Can you imagine? I worked so hard to preserve and protect what the locals couldn't even appreciate. I would visit a home, and find they were using a Minton saucer under a flowerpot. It makes one shudder at the thought.

But you know, it wasn't unusual for Lieutenant Governors to bring their wives for tea and admire my galleries. They bought their entire place settings from this shop. Here... in Mahone Bay. The crème de la crème traveled great distances to attend my Balls and Masquerades. They arrived in their carriages, later in their motorcars."
