The Strickland brothers, Ches, Gordon and Jerry started a sawmill operation on a small scale, sometime before the Lakes pulled out. They had a small cooper shop where they produced staves and fish barrels. They owned and used their own oxen and in the mid 1960's had a sub-contract with Bowater to cut pulpwood. In the beginning they used a water mill to run their saw and later got an engine which allowed them to saw larger lumber, pickets etc. During the war Stricklands expanded the mill and the general store. They were in operation until 1966 or 1967.
