"My dad made a lot of the frames for grandpa, and he made the out of wood. He had all different kinds of chisels, in different shapes, in order to carve the little designs into the corners of the frames. And I used to watch him quite a bit, but he would never let me try it, because I guess he figured I might ruin the wood. And dad did a lot of chauffeuring for grandpa and he took him to different areas. The Grand River, as most people know, was one of his favourite areas. And uh, he'd take him out somewhere that grandpa knew about or had seen before, and then he'd sit and sketch it. And then quite often he'd come back and make it into a painting."
