In the early 1870's Homer Ransford Watson fell in love with Roxa Bechtel. He courted her for seven years. They married on Jan.1st,1881.

Homer Watson continued to paint and to associate with many artists, most of whom were European trained.

Watson became very successful when he sold his painting "The Pioneer Mill" to the daughter & son-in-law of Queen Victoria in 1881. The couple purchased "The Pioneer Mill" for the Queen, who upon seeing the work, wanted another by the young Canadian.

Homer and Roxa Watson were able to purchase this circa 1835 house the following year. The couple lived there for the rest of the lives.

At first, Homer Watson had a small studio in his home and also used that room to display his art.

He built an addition to that room in 1897, in which he added a huge double-hung picture window to bring in as much light as possible.
