Long before the turn of the century Alberton became an important commercial centre.
This commercial growth saw the construction of some impressive buildings.

Examples include the Temperance Hall (1862).
A meeting place where Alberton's name was chosen. Also the office of the Alberton Pioneer newspaper. It is presently an apartment building.
