First impressions of the town when entering on route 12 from the West are the abundance of impressive old trees - oaks, elms, chestnuts and maples, as well as many stately homes, well maintained and with carefully tended lawns and gardens.

The Callaghan house, built in the 1860s, was the first "duplex" constructed on Prince Edward Island.
It was visited by author Lucy Maud Montgomery on several occasions.
Unfortunately, it had to be demolished in 1999 due to irrepairable structural decay.
