The idea of holding a Thrift Shop was put forth by Erminie Cohen in August 1955. The first Hadassah Thrift Shop was held in 1956 with Naomi Freedman and Erminie Cohen as convenors. Its success led to it becoming the major fundraising project of the Saint John Hadassah organization every year. A sale on a grander scale was initiated in 1969 when the Bazaar was held at the Barrack Green Armoury in the city's south end.
