1962 Ford County 4-Wheel Drive

This unusual Ford tractor still retains its original blue and grey paint scheme. Norman Bower purchased this tractor new - it has been in continuous use since.

The County line of tractors, produced in Britain in the late 1950s and early 1960s, were poorly designed. In the field the County requires a large turning area. Its main weakness, however, is the motor position and frame. The motor is bolted to the transmission rather than to a supporting framework. When a dozer blade is attached, or under another heavy front load, the engine bends away from the transmission.

(This tractor may be much older - Joanne Bower thought perhaps 1968 or so. They are busy with Joe McIlroy's funeral but will give it some thought and get back to me in the next week.)
