The artists returning to the Emma Lake Kenderdine Campus continue to mature; the landscape remains the same, yet their paintings, drawings and sculptures evolve.

Lorenzo Dupuis on Artists' Workshop

Lorenzo Dupuis spoke about his recent experience at Emma Lake Artists' Workshop (his fourteenth time in attendence).

"So once I was there, I just set up in the forest. I love painting from the forest interior, so I set up a big tarp, and just went at it. I think in the space of ten days I just worked like a 'mad-person'. I did forty/fifty paintings: 12 large canvases and about 38 panels. I just went day and night, day and night, day and night. It was difficult to do that at home, because there are many interruptions. There (Emma Lake), you are fed and looked after. You just have to get a few hours of sleep and you're back at it. There is a bit of group synergy as well. Everyone else is working and they are offering you feedback constantly...and it just gets the moment going."

Emma Lake, Saskatchewan is enchanting. It offers intimate contact with nature.

Mrs. J. R. Fox's (Daugther of artist J. S. Base) memories of Emma Lake:

"Learning to swim had a lot to do with the time spent lying face-down on the wharf studying life underwater. Millions of minnows darted magically about below (in the crystal clear water, circa 1935) while dragonflies danced over the surface of the water. And always the astonishing sound of the loon".

Specific places on and around Emma Lake Kenderdine Campus may be pointed out in paintings or sketches: Fairy Island, MacIntosh Point, or the "Path to the Dining Hall". More importantly, an essence of the experiences, the artists, and the place called "Emma" are imbedded in the colours, strokes, and spirit of the artwork.
