The "road" was poorly maintained; therefore, residents preferred to walk on the tracks.

As remembered by Francis Maude Hollett, past business owner,

"There was 2 stations. There was 1 old one and then there was the newer one. And the railway went through here, of course, and I lived right by the railway, like I said. I was brought up on the railway track. When we walked on the railway track there was 2 rows of company houses down there and when we walked to go down town we'd have to walk on the railway track."

The railway station wasn't always busy with just travelers. It was also a gathering place for teenagers.
