MAWA has played an essential role in the development of women artist for over 20 years. Many women artists from Winnipeg credit part of their success to the role MAWA has played in their lives. Many MAWA artists, including Aganetha Dyck, Reva Stone, Shawna Dempsey and Lorri Milan, have gone on to gain national and international acclaim.

In this photo, Diane Whitehouse, one of the founders of MAWA, blows out the candles on the twentieth anniversary cake in 2004. Following the smaller office reception a large masquerade carnival party was organized to raise funds and celebrate MAWA's twentieth birthday. In 2009, MAWA will celebrate twenty-five years as an organization that mentors women artists.
